This
story takes place in a fictional place--makes it sound like it is
perhaps in South America, but if you read the note from the author at the end, he
based it on his experiences in Manila. There are two main boys that tell
the story with a third that pipes up on occasion but this is a tale of
people that live in the dump~really live there. One day they discover a
key and some money and it changes their lives. Not to give too much
away, but this delves into political corruption, police brutality and
shows, quite starkly, the lifestyles of those that live at the bottom of
our society. Strong story, great voices and makes the point of the
disparity and disgustingness of that life without lecturing.
